Dr. Elinah Russell is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who provides trauma-informed therapy for adults navigating PTSD, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, substance use recovery, attachment wounds, emotional dysregulation, and major life transitions.
Originally from Zimbabwe and raised between Zimbabwe and South Africa, Dr. Russell brings a culturally responsive and globally informed perspective to her work, grounded in the Ubuntu philosophy: “I am because you are.” She has extensive experience supporting veterans, military families, first responders, justice-involved individuals, individuals experiencing homelessness, and clients from diverse cultural and historically underserved communities.
Her approach is grounded in neuroscience, attachment theory, and evidence-based trauma treatment. She integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic interventions, attachment-based therapy, and psychotherapy to help clients process difficult experiences, strengthen emotional resilience, and create lasting change. Dr. Russell strives to create a safe, collaborative, and supportive therapeutic environment where clients can explore their experiences, develop healthier coping strategies, and move toward meaningful healing and personal growth.
She is also the host of the Umuntu Ngumuntu Ngabantu podcast, where she explores mental health, culture, and community.
“Helping you find freedom through life's transitions with compassion, accountability, and judgment-free support.”
Corisa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about helping people navigate life's challenges with authenticity, compassion, and accountability. Throughout her career, she has worked alongside individuals in underserved communities whose stressors extend beyond mental health alone — recognizing how stigma, cultural identity, systemic barriers, and the intersection of multiple identities shape our experiences and influence the way we move through the world.
Corisa takes a person-centered approach to therapy, believing that you are the expert on your own life. Her role is to collaborate with you — helping you build insight, develop practical tools, and move through difficult seasons with confidence. Her professional experience includes extensive work with individuals who are incarcerated, those preparing for community reintegration, and people navigating trauma, loss, and significant life changes. These experiences strengthened her belief that everyone deserves to be seen beyond their circumstances and given the opportunity to heal without judgment.
Her therapy space is warm, welcoming, and free of judgment. She values honesty, accountability, and genuine connection, and believes growth happens when compassion and truth exist together. Drawing from evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, solution-focused, narrative, motivational interviewing, trauma-focused, and mindfulness-based therapy, Corisa works with adolescents, adults, and older adults — and welcomes Christian and LGBTQIA+ communities.
